Best Kids-Friendly Photo Spots and Playgrounds in Fukuoka, Japan

Japan is super family-friendly with little kids: attractions are mostly kid-oriented, simple meals like udon and plain rice are easy to find (and they'll actually eat them), and locals are so gentle and helpful with toddlers.

While Tokyo and Osaka can feel hectic and packed, Fukuoka has a much more relaxed pace — perfect for snapping beautiful photos of your little ones exploring its lovely parks and scenery.

Here are my top picks in and nearby Fukuoka:

1. Aburayama Farm (もーもーらんど油山牧場)

A wonderful farm experience just outside the city center, kids can see goats, chickens and cows up close, enjoy horse rides. Our kids loved the long metal roller slide that runs downhill through the enormous play area at the farm (tip: bring a cheap plastic board for smoother, faster, pain-free slides!). Food trucks and restaurants are were steps away, and our kids were able to recharge over lunch before heading out for more playtime (and photo opportunities!). Next time we visit, we’ll make sure to register for the vegetable harvesting and pizza making experience hosted in the heart of the farm!

2. Nokonoshima Island Park (能古島)

After a ferry ride from Meinohama and a short bus ride on the island (our kids loved seeing the cars driving on deck, although we boarded by foot), we were greeted by a vibrant sea of flowers and endless play spots at Nokonoshima Island Park. I could have easily spent the whole day lying in the open grass field while the kids roamed the playgrounds with pedal cars and swings, fed rabbits and stopped for ice-cream at a stall. We enjoyed lunch at one of many kids-friendly udon restaurants before making our way back to the city!

3. Uminonakamichi Seaside Park (海の中道海浜公園)

Our favorite location that we are bound to visit every time we take the kids to Fukuoka! This massive seaside park combines a huge playground, Marine World aquarium, and Animal Forest zoo in one spot - ideal for toddlers who enjoy slides, climbing, and watching animals. Grab takeaway from the on-site restaurant and picnic: spread a mat under shady trees, let the kids run, kick a ball, or play frisbee on the open lawns. The park is easily accessible from the city and offers stroller friendly paths, an ample amount of space, and natural backdrops that make it a perfect location for some quality family time and candid photos.

4. Yanagawa River Cruise (柳川)

Yanagawa is located in the outskirts of Fukuoka and is most well known for offering visitors a scenic canal ride (under 20 people) that is gentle and not overwhelming for kids. Enjoy a musical experience as the boatman sings his local folk songs while taking you along heritage homes and bridges hiding behind layers of weeping willow trees! Pro tip: Enjoy Yanagawa steamed eel rice (unagi no seiro-mushi) for lunch, a dish that originated around 300 years ago during the late Edo period.

We had an amazing time taking in the scenery while our toddlers explored the different landscapes, and already have Fukuoka on our travel list again while our children are still young. If you've taken kids to Fukuoka, what spots did you love? I would love to hear from you! 🌸🇯🇵
