I still remember my first Mother’s Day in 2021. Tyler was just a month old, and he gave me his first smile on his car seat. I was lucky enough to capture that moment on camera, and it was the sweetest and most indescribable feeling.
Becoming a mother has transformed me in many ways. Here are three big changes I’ve embraced:
1. A New Kind of Responsibility
I’ve never been a big risk-taker, but motherhood has made me even more cautious. I drive slower, use more hand santizers, and say “no” to trapeze, roller coasters, or intense basketball games. My young adult lifestyle has completely shifted, but I’m loving this mom version of myself. I’m taking better care of my body—exercising regularly (still enjoying basketball and picking up Muay Thai), and eating healthier than ever.
2. Discovering My Passion
Before motherhood, photography was just a hobby I experimented with during vacations. But becoming a mom ignited a spark in me. One of my biggest achievements was starting my own family photography business. I’ve learned that a passion can truly become a dream job. I can’t thank my family and friends enough for their support.
3. A New Identity and Social Circle
Being a mom doesn’t mean you’re stuck at home with your kids, waving goodbye to your social life. Instead, it’s opened up a whole new world for me. I’m so grateful to have met an amazing group of mom friends through my kids' kindergarten. We chat daily - have the same values, and share our happiness and frustration. They’ve become some of my closest friends.
To all the moms out there, I have the greatest respect for you. Our mom duties are 24/7, with no option to say ‘I quit’. We pour unconditional love and make countless sacrifices into our families. Yes, there are challenges, but I want to say: being a mom is incredible.
Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
